Academics are averse to anything hokey, and that’s good. It means we want evidence, real ideas, grounded theories. But I also have seen the impact of a good affirmation on the minds and creative lives of my clients.
Here are a few affirmations for you. Adapt one of them for yourself. You can write it on a post-it note and put it where you write, or tuck it into your wallet, or repeat it to yourself in traffic. Let yourself be the scientist and experiment with it. Track the results.
I go after things that nurture me and help me grow.
What I am feeling can be shared when I feel safe.
I have a supportive routine.
I know how to comfort myself in healthy ways.
Communicating is about both of us.
I enjoy pleasure.
I can express and satisfy my wants, not just my needs.
I know how to work hard and rest well.
