I am a writing coach with two decades of experience in university and community settings.
After receiving my Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and Women's Studies from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1996, my work has been dedicated to the writing, research, and practice about the ways mindfulness in writing and creativity can help us heal from traumatic histories and live our lives with greater meaning and joy.
I am the author of 15 books and audio publications, and my poetry has been nominated 3 times for a Pushcart Prize.
My writing coaching practice specializes in helping women writers break through fears and blocks about writing by reducing anxiety through fun and simple techniques.
In my practice with individual clients, I model an experiential practice combining mindfulness, meditation, journaling, and emotional awareness to help clients reach their writing and career goals while living a life of calm and balance.
From 2009-2015, I was a monthly columnist for Literary Mama, named one of the 101 best websites for writers by Writers' Digest. My Birthing the Mother Writer column provides the kind of helpful, behind-the-scenes advice and insight that I provide to writing clients.
"Cassie Premo Steele's teaching and group facilitation skills are outstanding. Her warm, supportive style encourages people to reach deep within themselves to express thoughts and feelings they were not even aware they had. Her knowledge of writing and of the psychology of creativity and healing is amazing."
